  • Until and unless we include the people of Yemen and Palestine in our efforts to achieve racial equality, this conversation is superficial emotionalism. We cannot support racial genocide against brown people in the Middle East and expect to make any significant progress against domestic racism. Remember that MLK was assassinated only AFTER he started to include the people of Vietnam in his quest for racial equality.

  • I'm so disappointed today. I live in Austin Texas, a town growing up that taught caring and understanding, helpfulness and yesterday a law was passed that allows cops to arrest people for sitting in public! How are we going to get any equality if we arrest people for being poor.

  • The essence of trauma is loss... Loss of self.. Safety... Home... Family... Health... And on and on... I've lost everything more than once... Everything I ever held precious is gone... Yet I continue... I enjoy myself... But when that sence of loss hits... It freezes the blood in my veins... There are things that can never be replaced... I am whole at the moment... But the pieces don't fit like they once did... A shattered life can be put back together... But it's never the same... And the pieces become vulnerable as life bashes upon the ill fitting whole... It's only so long before it again falls to pieces... I've put myself back together time and time again... But the cracks are showing... And it's becoming easier to leave pieces out when building myself up again.... I am now fragile... But I will hold up as long as I can... But I'm only human... And not every story has a happy ending....

Listen to his lawyers case on wrongful death. It's shows merit in how vulnerable your skin color makes you when it comes to police brutality. He was described as a gentle giant by friends and peers and had committed no prior criminal offenses before his death. He left behind two young kids and a wife.

  • Aiko Bethea's insight that, for anti-racism work to be transformational, it must be relational, not transactional, is deeply relevant. I just wish more people could take on board what this means for white "allyship”. How is it that whiteness always manages to get centered where it pretends not to be? I am white, but when I arrive at a racial consciousness, I do so as an autistic and trans person. If there is an obligation to vulnerability, it’s on the privileged to confront the precarity of self at a crossroads. Sincere introspection can be violent, but that's part of it. Too many white people think they can be anti-racist and not be undone in the process. "If you have come here to help me you are wasting your time, but if you have come because your liberation is bound up with mine, then let us work together.” - Lilla Watson, aboriginal activist

  • I spent my child hood in trauma, and I have an answer to the question "What do I have to tell my self to make blatant dehumanization ok," There is nothing that will ever allow me to view blatant dehumanization as OK! I may be white but I am a poor woman who was once attractive which has caused me to be objectified and viewed by men in terms of the property more than once. However as soon as I was of an age where I had a choice, I made that choice never to cow tow to bullies again. I have more than once interfered with bullies on other peoples behalf. We as Americans have got to stop letting authority abused our people, whatever color creed culture or religion they are, thats is what the constitution says. It's just the right thing to do.

    Barbara LuddenBarbara LuddenPřed 10 dny
    • @TiWanTiWa Abibiman you may have misinterpreted her comment. She isn’t saying her trauma is the same or greater than those of black Americans, but because of her trauma and background, she is using that to continue to push better lives for other people. Just like she said, she interferes when she sees bullies attacking others. Maybe that’s very small but it’s still a big deal. Just doing anything and realizing something is wrong is the first step toward change and better lives. And as black people, we really need to stop criticizing others just because we don’t think “they get it.” Maybe she doesn’t understand fully. Maybe she’s trying and learning. She’s still doing way more than a lot of people who are too busy arguing that “racism is dead” and “white privilege isn’t real.”

      ReneA P.ReneA P.Před 5 dny
    • So your trauma is is equal to the traumas/PTSD of Black people in this conversation/issue? Not that you can't have your trauma as a white woman, this conversation is about Black Lens/Trauma. Please go read and/or view books and CSworld videos of Dr. Robin D'Angelo.

  • A massive group of vulnerable people is actually way stronger than any form of power. Stronger than the people with guns. Stronger than a small group of people in The White House. Why do I think so? One, without the people, the government won't understand it's own roots. Two, not to say that people are weak with guns, but they are the influence of making guns. Without the mind to create weapons, we wouldn't know our own weaknesses the way that we are seeing right now. And three, you are always in need of somebody. And who isn't? You can't escape people. Whether you like them or not, they are suffering just as much as you are. You have to know your weaknesses and your strengths in order to make a movement with the people. And money is one massive kryptonite for all of us as we lose attention to care for other people. Money is not bad to have, but you have to work with people and figure out how we can combine our dollars and do more with our money as a group. Families are suffering no matter what the amount of money, all families are suffering while money is depleting. We have to do something about it.

  • 8 Examples...Baltimore, since 1947 has had a single Republican mayor and 13 Democratic mayors; For 64 of those 74 years, the city has been run by Democrats. Detroit has had eight Democratic Mayors and no Republicans since 1962 - 59 years. Chicago has had 10 Democrats and no Republicans in 90 years. Philadelphia has had 10 Democrats and no Republicans in 69 years St. Louis, similarly has had nine Democratic mayors and no Republicans in 68 years; Boston has had 12 Democrats and no Republicans in 91 years; Los Angeles has had five Democrats and a single Republican in the 60 years. New York, has had 15 different mayors since 1917, nine of whom were Democrats. Each of these cities is among the largest in America and arguably has some of the worst metrics. Three of the eight are leading cities for murders; four have the highest crime rates, four have managed to make the Forbes "Most Miserable Cities" list, and at least two are at economic risk. It is worth noting that each of these cities has large - and largely poor - black communities. Many African Americans, sold on the concept that the Democrats represent the little guy, have consistently helped get these Democrats elected. I would ask the black voters of these cities to seriously question whether they believe their lives have been materially improved since their grandparents lived there. Despite a half century of promises, it takes little reflection to agree that life in urban black communities has improved only marginally, if at all. While Democrats are fast to point out the problems are the result of "the drug war" or the "unbridled capitalism" of white-owned businesses who took jobs away, you will never hear them look inward and consider that perhaps their leadership and well-meaning but poorly advised liberal social agendas are to blame for much of the misery in poor urban communities.

  • I want to understand what is going on, why do some people see racism and other don't? This is clearly another hit piece on white people. 9:00 Literal says For white folks, what story do we have to tell ourselves to be okay with that, what story are you making up? to release yourself from any ownership. Were are all these people, who are okay with blatant racism? Are they are majority? are they a minority? These questions should not be aimed at one race, but to society as a whole. Demonizing people and saying they are making up excuses to be okay with racism, seems like "race baiting" to me. Honestly I want us all to live in peace and be treated fairly. Exactly what our founding documents state. I just want to understand so I can make the correction in myself and spread the world to all my peers. Thank you to anyone that reads this :)
